In 2006, while working for a forestry consulting firm in the Ottawa area, Mathieu decided to return to his home province to start his own forest management business, amid one of the worst forestry crisis ever.

Mathieu describes himself as a social entrepreneur because he promotes environmental and social goals. His company, ACFOR, which is an acronym for “Acadian Forest”, restores and increases the quality of the Acadian Forest through sustainable forest management.

Struggling to find markets for substandard wood, Mathieu founded ACFOR Energy which provides renewable heat to commercial buildings and rural communities with wood biomass, using the world's most advanced biomass boilers.

ACFOR's success has been rewarded on numerous occasions. Mathieu was recently named one of the top 20 under 40s by The Canadian Forest Industries.
